Today's extended enterprise relies on the Internet for revenue generation, productivity gains, cost control and efficient customer service. Enterprises are web enabling entire business processes, many of which depend on applications from such companies as PeopleSoft, Siebel, SAP, Vignette and Microsoft. The performance of these applications is even more crucial, because the enterprise has opened its internal processes to its entire value chain.

In response to these challenges, many of the world's largest and most successful companies (including HP, Motorola, LexisNexis, Nokia, Samsung and Scholastic) have adopted a new technology platform, an application delivery network (ADN).
